Fellow Austinites, do you remember the show that I was supposed to play during the last week of 2011? WELL, THIS SHOW WILL ACTUALLY HAPPEN. Although it’ll take place after Free Week, I’m certain that it’ll be worth your money and your time. World Racketeering Squad will kick things off with a set of songs that refract five decades of classic rock through a nerdier lens (there’s a reason why the Squad calls its music “nerdwave”). If you like the Byrds and Devo, meet your new local heroes. (www.weracketeer.com) The Bell Riots, with bass in your face courtesy of yours truly, will keep the party moving with tuneful, herky-jerky ditties that make room for everything from rapped verses to heavy-metal breakdowns. (thebellriots.bandcamp.com) Of course, I’ll do my post-karaoke crooning and shredding as the Cocker Spaniels, playing parallel-universe hits from my recent releases, new songs, at least one cover, and a possible surprise. Yes, I’ll also bring homemade cookies to this show! (www.cspaniels.com) eetsFEATS will close the evening with a set of treble-kicked surf-punk jams. I’ve admired this band’s DIY ethic and easygoing demeanor for a while, and I’m excited to share a stage with them. (www.ayeayeaye.com) The doors for this show will open @ 9 pm, and the cover will be $5 for ALL AGES. Please come on time, bring friends, stay for every act, and have as much fun as humanly and ethically possible!
