I don’t know how to lie properly, so I never have a definitive answer. I can’t just tell people I need the money because I’m supporting myself, or because I hate where I’m working right now. That’s too bland, too broad, too honest. Companies want to hear some jazzy shit about why a job as a crew member at Chipotle or Starbucks is going to take me places.
It’s really fucking not.I don’t understand why we can’t just be honest like our parents taught us to be.
I would like to work at your company because I need to afford public transportation to and from school. If I don’t have money, I can’t go to school. If I don’t go to school, I can’t get a career that will help me afford my place. If I can’t afford my place, I won’t have anywhere to live.
If I don’t have anywhere to live, I don’t know what is going to happen to me.
It’s funny how the things that matter don’t.
I can relate. The last time I was asked that question, I replied: “I need money, and I’d like to make that money by doing something @ least tangentially related to what I studied in college.” I got the job, and have had it for almost three years, but I’m pretty sure that I’m an exception.
