i just love music history as i keep saying
coz it denotes our interactions and history as people
(to oversimplify, this is like a tree w hella branches on branches)
the moors music is what we now call traditional spaniard music,
which is what was brought to latin america
which blended w west african shit
and made what we now recognize as mexican guitar too
which also influenced the blues (and there were already malian blues so these are sounds being regurgitated and remixed thru history)
which influenced hawaiian slack key (along w portuguese and mexican styles)
which influenced the blues again
which influenced rock and country and
from the doowop that also came from the blues and retro soul
came ska and reggae, which bred dancehall, reggaetton, among other shit
and cuban big band shit which was of blended mostly west african origin
influenced african american big bands and jazz
which influenced latin jazz and salsa
which influenced funk and soul
which influenced west african artists who remixed the music the rest of the diaspora had cranked out, and created their own new afrorock and other blended genres
and from funk and soul came disco and what we now know as r&b and pop and hip hop
and hip hop has taken elements from any and all the above
and new connections and genres and subgenres have been forming forever, all over the place
its ongoing
wherever we meet together, downtrodden or not
we make music together too
yes, boo, YES
I love Music History because its like a trail of breadcrumbs for Black History and the Black Experience that was erased...
